This is the one game at Rutgers Stadium in 2021 that my seat companion and I can't make this year, so I hope the Scarlet Knights make us regret our competing engagements by making Saturday's game against Sparty one to remember.

It's "Keep Calm and Chop Ohio State" Week

The year will come when it won't sound like a ridiculous pipe dream to think about the Scarlet Knights beating the football team from Ohio that also wears scarlet and has named themselves after a mildly poisonous nut.

The year could be this year, but it will be some year soon as long as Greg Schiano is coach of the Knights and they keep chopping.

And unlike 2020, home field advantage is a thing again this year. See You Saturday at R House. 

 

Keep Calm and Chop Delaware

With Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State up next, it's hard not to think of tomorrow afternoon's game against the University of Delaware Blue Hens as the final pre-season game before the heart of the Big Ten season begins on September 25, but I hope the players aren't thinking of it that way. I know that Coach Schiano isn't looking past the Blue Hens just because they're an FCS team -- I'm sure that he well remembers coaching the 2004 Scarlet Knights to an emotional season-opening home upset of the MSU Spartans only to lose to a Division I-AA New Hampshire team the following week.

Also, it was great to see Adam Korsak named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week for two weeks in a row after the wins against Temple and Syracuse, but I'd be happy if he didn't even get a chance to punt tomorrow.

Those Buckeyes Were Just Copying the Scarlet Knights (and not only by copying the color scarlet)

There's a great article by Ryan Dunleavy on NJ.com this morning with the title, "Did Rutgers, not Ohio State, start helmet stickers in college football? Here's proof." Not only is it worth reading this piece about large stars added to the front of Rutgers helmets for interceptions in 1961 in its own right, but the timing is perfect with the Buckeyes coming to town in two days.

Game Two Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is the day for the Scarlet Knights to start fulfilling the promise that they demonstrated last Friday night against the University of Washington.

I'm a fan of another green team that bears the nickname "Eagles" and I'm an even bigger admirer of actual eagles, so this week's poster was not the easiest for me to make, but tomorrow afternoon there will be no mixed feelings when Rutgers and Eastern Michigan kick off at 3:30.

Go Knights! See all of you there.

There is still time to save the season...

A whole host of disappointments of the 2016 Rutgers Football season will be forgiven and forgotten if the Scarlet Knights come out on top of The (top ten) Team From Pennsylvania visiting R House tomorrow night.

Hoosier Daddy?

The Knights are a two touchdown underdog to the Big Ten team we have never lost to? I have a better feeling about today's game than I've had in a while, especially after the close game at Minnesota two weeks ago and the bye last week. This should be a totally different Rutgers team on the field at noon.

Tomorrow morning will be the first morning of 2016 with football fans filling the parking areas around Rutgers Stadium for the first game of the year against Howard. Here's the poster:

Looking Forward to 2016.

2015 ended inauspiciously yesterday when Rutgers tried to sit on an early first half 31-10 lead over Maryland rather than play until the end of the game, with the inevitable result.

2016 began today when President Barchi fired Athletic Director Julie Hermann and Head Coach Kyle Flood. I won't say anything bad about either of them here, but I will say whom I'd love to see on the sidelines when football season starts again, so here's a poster and video meant to be seen by our brand new Athletic Director Pat Hobbs:

Keep Calm For The Seniors On Their Day at R House.

Leonte Carroo announced that he's definitely playing during his last chance to take the field at Rutgers Stadium this Saturday, so let's send him off with a victory (even if that means that Kyle Flood might have to think about switching from Laviano to Rettig at QB at some point earlier than the waning minutes of the fourth quarter).

We'll see you there to see off Carroo and the rest of the Seniors. We don't Fear The Turtle!

The Obligatory Weekly Optimism...

Even though Rutgers has a perfect lifetime record against the team in Maize and Blue, we're not feeling especially sanguine about beating the Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Saturday with our current QB and coach. But this is not the place for negativity, so here's your weekly Keep Calm and Chop poster for Michigan week.

The message is simple...

The teams and states are very evenly matched; the team colors are similar and even the current occupants of our Governors' offices are pretty even on both the Asshole and 2016 Presidential Loser scales.

(or anywhere else).
